St. Rose of Lima (1586-1617), the first canonized saint of the New World, was known for her beauty, charity, and deep devotion to God. Choosing a life of prayer and sacrifice, she refused marriage, supported her family through needlework and gardening, and lived as a Dominican Tertiary at home.

Her compassion for the sick led her to care for even the most afflicted, often obtaining miraculous cures. Known as "Mother of the Poor," she also worked miracles to feed her family and prayed fervently for the conversion of the Incas. In 1615, her prayers saved Lima from a pirate attack. A close friend of St. Martin de Porres, her mystical experiences even led to an ecclesiastical inquiry.

In her short life  of 31 years, her intense love for God made her revered as a saint in her time, leading to her canonization in 1671. Today, St. Rose of Lima remains one of the most beloved saints in Church history.
